Pandemic Parenting Co-Founders Awarded 2021 Citizen Psychologist Award

Pandemic Parenting Co-Founders Earn the 2021 American Psychological Association Division 37 Child and Family Citizen Psychologist Award

We are pleased to announce that Pandemic Parenting co-founders, Dr. Lindsay Malloy and Dr. Amanda Zelechoski, are the 2021 recipients of the Child and Family Citizen Psychologist Award from the American Psychological Association (APA) Division 37 (Society for Child and Family Policy and Practice).

As part of the APA Citizen Psychologist initiative, this award is for Div. 37 psychologist members who have demonstrated notable engagement in the community and service independent of their employment duties. Such engagement serves to benefit the local, professional, national, or global communities. “We are honored to be this year’s recipients of the Child and Family Citizen Psychologist Award,” said Dr. Malloy. “We’re grateful to have had the opportunity to help thousands of parents in more than 140 countries navigate pandemic parenting over the last year. We look forward to continuing our work of translating and sharing psychological research and evidence-based guidance with all who care for kids,” added Dr. Zelechoski.

Drs. Zelechoski and Malloy were recognized for their work in launching Pandemic Parenting, a nonprofit organization and web platform, in August 2020, and their willingness to share science-based resources with parents in a free and accessible way, with the overarching goal of helping to mitigate some of the consequences associated with the COVID-19 pandemic for families.

As award recipients, they have been invited to present a webinar on Friday, June 25, 2021, 12-1 p.m. EDT, on Parenting through a Pandemic: Using the Psychological Science to Help Us Cope. In this webinar, Dr. Malloy and Dr. Zelechoski will discuss the self-doubt, anxiety, and uncertainty that has accompanied pandemic parenting and strategies for overcoming it. They will also discuss some of the benefits and challenges associated with "giving psychology away" directly to parents and those who care for children. This webinar is eligible for 1 CE credit and is free for non-CE attendees.
